Ready to mount up?
City to Saddle supports underserved youth by connecting them with riding opportunities and support at area farms and stables.
HOW WE WORK
City to Saddle (CTS) contracts with licensed equestrian facilities (host farms) eager to incorporate CTS children into riding programs. We often collaborate with youth organizations such as YMCA's, public housing associations, schools, etc., who assist with enrolling and often provide transportation to the CTS host farm. Guardians and family members can also enroll their children individually.
TYPES OF PROGRAMS
City to Saddle promotes and assists host farms to create riding programs utilizing the farm's facilities, staff, and horses. Each host farm may have their own unique program generally falling into two categories:
Weeklong summer or school vacation half or full day riding programs for a group of participants
Weekly riding lessons: A series of weekly hour-long riding lessons for individuals or small groups throughout the year
FUN, ENGAGING PROGRAMS CAN TAKE MANY FORMS!
- Western or English riding styles with associated saddles and other tack
- Trail rides through fields, woods, or along country roads
- Horse grooming and other care
- Interactive vaulting (sometimes compared to gymnastics on horseback)
- Jumping or other disciplines for more experienced riders
- Virtual programs (during the Covid-19 shutdown)
- Read to Ride: an incentive reading program for young equestrians
- Grooming and other horse care
- Chores and other farm fun!
